Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Markets

Building Fresh Food Networks Since 1976 The Monterey Bay region is world renowned for its bountiful agricultural harvest, but it is also a leader in sustainable and organic food production. Since its beginnings in 1976, the Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Markets has used this serendipitous situation to its advantage, creating a thriving network between small family farmers and local communities. As the oldest and largest farmers market organization on the Central Coast, MBCFM has grown to be highly acclaimed within the region and statewide, earning numerous awards for its quality markets and community service.

Four farmers markets, each unique to its own community and farmers, make up the MBCFM. Among the four, the Aptos and Monterey markets operate year-round, whereas the Carmel and Del Monte markets (both located on the Monterey Peninsula) are seasonal. As these are “certified” markets, all of the farmers sell products they have grown themselves, either organically or using sustainable methods. In addition to the 90 vendors you’ll see at the markets, you’ll find nonprofits as well; up to three spots are generously donated per month with the intention of raising awareness of these organizations.

Besides listing information for each market, the MBCFM website posts recent news and future events. It also hosts an excellent companion site, Edible Paradise, that guides market shoppers on how to incorporate seasonal offerings into numerous recipes.
