Mountain Parks Foundation

Making Our Mountain Parks The Best The Mountain Parks Foundation has one purpose: to support Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and Big Basin Redwoods State Park. It's done this since 1973, when it became one of the first three organizations to join with California State Parks as a Cooperating Association. The Foundation funds a wide variety of educational experiences that inspire the protection and enjoyment of the redwood parks of the Santa Cruz Mountains. It's responsible for the gorgeous, modern interpretive Nature Center at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, a beautiful center with films, bird songs and information about the park's four distinct habitats; and for the homier but still superb Nature Center at Big Basin, which is scheduled for an update following a fundraising campaign scheduled for early 2015. The Foundation also publishes maps, books and other educational materials that you need to read if you love this area.

Mountain Parks also operates the Nature Store at Henry Cowell 365 days a year. Stocked with T-shirts, hats, jewelry, loads of books on local natural history and high-quality handmade crafts, the store is a popular and unique shopping experience for park visitors and locals alike. The annual holiday sale held in early December is a great opportunity to snap up unusual gifts for any nature lover.
