Ventana Surfboards at Stripe Men Are Calling Your Name

Tags:

We've been admiring Ventana Surf Co. boards from afar ever since we first became aware of their handplanes a few years ago. Hollow-bodied, crafted from lustrous redwood, poplar and pine and varnished to an almost impossible shine, these boards by Martijn Stiphout are works of art. They gleam. They glow. Some are relatively plain, a showcase for the grain and tone of the wood. Others feature arresting designs—sunbeams that are beautifully off-center or geometric patterns inlaid with cherry wood and abalone. See? We're practically salivating.

Well, now you, too, can ogle a bunch of Ventana surfboards up close in one place and get your mantini too, and maybe a Stanley flask or Pendleton wool blanket or a manly smell-good elixir wildcrafted by beautiful omnisexual hippies. Stripe MEN is hosting a one-week popup gallery showcasing Stiphout's work. "The Art of The Craft" runs Friday, May 10 through May 17 at the fabulous store found at 107 Walnut Ave., Santa Cruz. The reception is tonight—Friday, May 10, 8-10:30pm. Too late for you? Don't worry. Starbucks Doubleshot is co-sponsoring this affair. They can probably help get you through it.
