Calling All Mole Chefs

by Hilltromper staff

Aug. 18, 2014—Do you have an old family recipe for mole that your friends and family clamor for each year? Do you just secretly wish you did, so you'd have a good excuse to grind freshly toasted spices and chiles, maybe nuts and chocolate, and simmer them for hours with secret ingredients until their flavor deepened into something magical?

Well, if so, you're in luck. This year the 2nd annual Mole and Mariachi Festival is opening the food competition to amateur chefs as well as professionals. Mole recipes prepared by home cooks will be on offer alongside those made by professional chefs from restaurants all over Santa Cruz County for both the People's Choice and Judges' Choice awards. The catch? You have to make enough for 350 people.

This party, put on at the beautiful Mission Adobe by the Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, is destined to become a rite of fall. Cook up a big batch and join the fun!

Applications are due Friday, Aug. 29. For information, call 831.239.6012, email festival@thatsmypark.org or visit the Mole and Mariachis page at Thatsmypark.org.
