For the energizer bunnies set to maximize their July 4th festivities, look no further than the Firecracker 10k, a popular Santa Cruz 4th of July tradition that has been "running" since 1985. The Firecracker races include a 10k, 5k, and a children's 1k run/walk, so bring the whole family out early in the morning for a fun-filled workout (and maybe win some prizes while you're at it). A pancake breakfast is also included for post-race hunger pangs. Race registration is still open, but there are a limited number of spots so get crackin'! This year, the event supports the American Red Cross of the Central Coast.
Harvey West Park, 326 Evergreen Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. The kids 1k begins at 8am, Firecracker 10k begins at 8:30am, Firecracker 5k starts at 8:40am. $45 for 10k/5k, $20 for kids 1k.
