At the 2013 O'Neill Coldwater Classic Surf Contest an all new format pits a field of talented but unsponsored pro-surfers against one another in a winner take all battle. The prize? A yearlong chance to chase the dream of qualifying for the World Championship Tour backed by an O'Neill Wetsuit sponsorship and $50,000 in travel support and contest entry fees. A personal videographer will tag along to record the year's highs and lows.
Ten of the 16 competitors will be officially invited, two will be wildcards, and the remaining four will be choosen via online voting from Sept. 30th to Oct. 6th. Eighty local amateurs under 18 will also participate in the "Ratboy Rampage" to honor Jason "Ratboy" Collins, local surfing legend.
The contest will be held on three favorable days between Nov. 6th and 10th. Mark your calendars, folks, stakes this big are sure to inspire some impassioned performances and the natural stadium at Steamer Lane is among surfings finest venues.
