California Native Plant Society

Protecting California's Native Plants Heritage Active since 1965, the California Native Plant Society is a statewide non-profit organization of amateurs and professionals with a common interest in California's native plants.

The Santa Cruz chapter offers a variety of activities. The chapter's restoration team has been battling French broom at Quail Hollow Ranch County Park for several years, with great results, and also works in other public areas such as Natural Bridges State Park. The propagation team grows plants for the popular spring and fall native plant sales. The Conservation group is working with others to ensure preservation of Arana Gulch open space and the rare tar plant that grows there, as well as working to save other sensitive habitats in our county. The chapter also offers guided hikes and other activities.

The chapter has a general meeting with a speaker every other month on the second Monday of the month at the University of California Santa Cruz Arboretum Horticulture Building, located at 1156 High Street. Directions can be found here. Attend a meeting — you'll learn something new!

The chapter welcomes all, from botanists and defenders of the environment to the casual nature lover and those interested in gardening with natives. Contact any Board Member to find out about the organization.
