Free Helmet and U-Lock from Epicenter

For the second year in a row, Epicenter Cycling’s Back to School bike deal aims to protect students and their bicycles without cutting into the precious budget for Top Ramen and Hot Pockets. The deal is available to both university and high school students with a valid student ID.

With the purchase of any Trek bike over $500, Epicenter throws in a free Bontrager Solstice helmet and Kryptonite Keeper u-lock.

"Usually students don’t think to buy a helmet or lock, or they don’t want to spend the extra money in addition to the cost of a new bike," says Epicenter's Candice Covello."Our program aims to promote safety without any extra cost.”

Helmets protect cyclists from traumatic brain injuries. Don’t waste brain cells on the pavement—instead save them for more scholarly pursuits like a weekend beer pong tournament or the Afroman concert at the Catalyst. Eating Salisbury steak at the dining hall is way more fun than sucking nutritional paste through a naso-gastric feeding tube in the hospital. Wear a helmet.

After preserving the student’s body, Epicenter also aims to protect new bikes. In 2011 the Santa Cruz Police Department reported 396 bike thefts. Deter thieves with the use of the free Kryptonite u-lock that comes as part of the Back to School Deal.

Both Epicenter’s Aptos and Westside Locations offer gender specific, entry-level bikes for commuting up the hill to UCSC or across town to Cabrillo.

Entry Level Commuter Bikes From Epicenter:
Dual Sport: Trek 7.2 ($550.00)
Mountain Bike: Sky SL Women’s ($659.99)
Mountain Bike: Excalibur SL6 ($749.99)
Road Bike: 1.1 ($739.99)
