Heritage Festival at Wilder Ranch: 10 Reasons to Go

This Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, the Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks are throwing a party at Wilder Ranch State Park. The Heritage Festival and Draft Horse Day runs from 10am until 4pm, is free to the public and offers up a slice of pie—er, life—the way it was back in the early 1900s.

TEN REASONS TO GO TO THE HERITAGE FESTIVAL AND DRAFT HORSE DAY

1. Draft Horses
It's in the name! Josh, Greta, Rick and the others will be pulling wagonloads of revelers around the farm.

2. Pick A Pumpkin
From the patch, and decorate it!

3. $2 Slices of Pumpkin Pie
Something this good can't be wrong.

4. $2 Slices of Apple Pie
Let's not pretend, shall we?

5. Your Children Will Be Tired and Meek Later Today
All that running around in the fresh air and hopping around on hay bales could work out very well for the grups.

6. 70 Heirloom Varieties of Organic Apples
If you've never tasted one kind of apple after tasting another kind of apple and said, "Hm, the second one tastes like banana," you haven't been to a tasting party with the California Rare Fruit Growers. $5 to play.

7. 77 Degrees. In October.
The forecast is real nice.

8. Square Dancing
Turns out it's a lot more fun than it was in sixth grade. Promise.

9. Live Bluegrass
"No thanks, I've had enough mandolin" is just not something you hear that often.

10. Antique Tractors
They are just so cool.

Heritage Festival and Draft Horse Day is Saturday, Oct. 19 at Wilder Ranch State Park, 10am-4pm. Free admission, but parking is $10.
