Volunteer opportunities at Santa Cruz area state parks.

Feb. 19, 2014—Enjoy visiting Santa Cruz’s beautiful state parks and want to spread the love? Check out some recently listed volunteer opportunities around the county.
Portola Redwoods and Castle Rock state parks are seeking 20 new volunteer trailblazers and park stewards. The commitment is just six hours per month, along with attendance at the four mandatory training days on March 15, 22, 29 and April 5. Email volunteer@portolaandcastlerockfound.org for more information. To apply, include a short introductory letter explaining why you are interesting in becoming a volunteer for Portola Redwoods State Park, Castle Rock State Park or both.
Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center is looking for volunteers interested in developing into skilled docent naturalists to lead guided walks specializing in the natural and cultural history of the area. Training will be held four Saturdays in a row, starting April 19 (right in the middle of wildflower season, dontcha know). Call Morgan at (831) 427-2288 with inquiries.
Similarly, Big Basin Redwoods State Park is on the hunt for caring volunteers to join a team with the mission of helping the environment through education. These volunteers will lead walks for school groups and the public and will gain knowledge of the coast redwoods and their ecosystem. Training starts in March.
