Date:
An only-in-Santa-Cruz-County tradition for 14 years, the Jay Race combines lots of aloha and community spirit with a paddleboard race honoring the late Santa Cruz waterman Jay Moriarty. From the staging point at Capitola Beach, choose from a chill 2-mile course; a 12-mile course to the Santa Cruz Wharf, the One-Mile Buoy and back; the gnarly Waterman Challenge with its 500-meter swim, 500-meter prone paddle out and 1000-meter SUP combo; or the Kids Race. An afterparty and raffle complete the festivities.
Capitola Beach. 8am-3pm. $35-$70 to enter; free to watch.
Register for the Jay Race . All proceeds benefit Santa Cruz County Junior Lifeguards.
