Christmas in April comes to mountain bikers, with free demos, mad skills sessions, hijinx over the air bag, a kids' bike rodeo and other goodies at San Lorenzo Park in downtown Santa Cruz. Yep, we said downtown Santa Cruz! The SCMBF started in 2009 at Depot Park before migrating to the jumps of the Post Office in Aptos. With the closure (no surprise, always part of the plan) of the PO Jumps, the action moves to San Lorenzo Park, which is just a few minutes away from the Emma McCrary Trail and all the goodness it connects to. So, yeah! Fun all day. A few of Saturday's highlights:
— 9am-noon Shine leads a no-drop ladies' ride at Emma McCrary
— 9am-6pm Air Bag Jump sponsored by Velocity/Mt Hermon. Take a turn catching air for $5 or get the all-day pass for $30.
— 9:30am-1:3pm Scott Sharples leads a Pro-Skills Class to refine your badassery. Learn more on the SCMBF Skills Clinics Page
— 10am-2pm Sweetlines Kids Classes. From 10am to noon Kat Sweet schools the 6-8-year-olds, and 12:30-2 she works with the 9-14-year-olds. Learn more on the SCMBF Skills Clinics Page
— 10am-3pm The Poker Ride is a scavenger hunt by bike with great prizes! $20 to join.
— Noon-5pm LB Bikes teaches skills to adults; learn more on the SCMBF Skills Clinics Page
— 4-6pm The Sweetlines Shred Games are on!
— TBA The Kids Bike Rodeo lets the small fry feel the thrill of the whoop-de-woops.
And of course demos all day from Santa Cruz Bicycles, Trek, Specialized, Giant, Liv Giant, Ibis, Cannondale ... and products and services for days.
AND THAT'S NOT ALL! There's beer, food and even live music. Today, reggae by Echo Street from noon to 1:30pm and classic rock by Phat Chants from 2:30 to 4pm.
