Pray for rain. The masters of mycology converge on Santa Cruz for the Fungus Federation's annual Fungus Faire, a three-day celebration of all things mushrooming. Tables laden with newly picked specimens, often in creative dioramas, make up the "show" part of this festival, while experts like former Santa Cruzan and mushroom god David Arora, medicinal mycology maven Christopher Hobbs and energetic newcomer Christian Schwarz make up the "tell." Hotrod chefs like Damani Thomas of Oswald and Cal Stamenov of the 4-star Carmel Valley restaurant Marinus will reveal some compelling culinary reasons to learn your mushrooms and get to cookin'. Louden Nelson Center, Santa Cruz. Friday 3-7pm, $5; Sat-Sun 10am-5pm, $10.
