UCSC's Kenneth C. Norris Center for Natural History, formerly the UCSC Museum of Natural History, was founded in 2014 to get people of all ages excited about local natural history. Today and tomorrow come up to the center for the annual fundraiser and view the illustrations of artist Maryjo Koch along with the Randall Morgan Plant-Pollinator Collection, named for the deeply knowledgeable and largely self-taught Santa Cruz naturalist. Examine insect and bird specimens alongside samples of fresh fungi, butterflies, moths, reptiles and mammals and see how the whole wacky puzzle fits together.
Koch will give painting demonstrations at 1pm both days. The hour of 2pm will see a raffle of prizes, including local field guides and classes at Koch’s studio. Other merchandise, including hats, note-cards, tote-bags, field guides, and Koch’s original artwork, will be for sale. All sales benefit the Norris Center.
UCSC Hay Barn (at entrance to campus), High and Bay streets, Santa Cruz. 10am-5pm. Free, but this is a fundraiser, so donate what you can!
