The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History is partnering up with the Santa Cruz Bird Club to make your Saturday mornings a whole lot better. And birdy-er, but that’s not a word. Birding experts from the SC Bird Club will be leading early-bird workshops along the San Lorenzo River — where over two hundred bird species have been spotted migrating or residing on the river. Bring your bird-loving families and friends of all ages for a morning of feathered awe and knowledge.
This Saturday morning will be led by Bernadette and Bob Ramer. This dynamic birding duo work together to complete the Moss Landing Christmas Bird Count. Bernadette has the authority on local shorebirds with a focus on the Elkhorn Slough area; she’s currently a volunteer for the Elkhorn Slough Shorebird Monitoring Project and has led Elkorn Slough field trips for local birders and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. She has a special focus with the snowy plover, as she’s spent more than 20 years in the field for Point Reyes Bird Observatory.
San Lorenzo River (specific location TBD). Free. Space is limited, so register here. Comfortable footwear and binoculars, if you have them, are suggested for the optimal birding experience.
