Sapphire, cerulean, cobalt, turquoise...step outside in Santa Cruz and you see blue. Celebrate the hue, and all it means to us, at Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History's BLUE extravaganza.
Music from the Great Morgani and Bluetail Flies will fill the atrium while workshops, performances, discussions, and installations inspired by BLUE swirl about the MAH. There'll be history, science, poetry, psychology, and philosophy inspired by the color, and you're welcome to jump right into the creative process. Explore the mechanics behind the mysteries of photographic cyanotypes, turn blue-plastic-beach-trash into treasured art, express your own blues in both prose and poetry, and check out the "blue" history of the San Lorenzo River.
Having the Blues has never been this much fun.
(And to think, all this fuss because the shortest wavelengths in the light from the sun - the ones that scatter as they move through the particles in our atmosphere and are reflected by the sea - are blue.)
Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, 705 Front Street. 5pm-8pm. $5, $3 Students/Seniors/Kids, FREE for MAH Members & kids under 4.
