If you've ever wished you knew more about the natural world, here's a chance to take an intensive course with incredibly knowledgeable people and emerge after eight weeks of lectures, field trips and projects with a solid foundation in the natural history of the Central Coast. Lectures are Thursday evenings, with field trips on the weekends. You'll learn about mushrooms, geology, mammals, Native American land stewardship, tide pools, insects, birds, reptiles—and how the whole blasted thing works together. Lecturers include birder Todd Newberry, forester Nadia Hamey, Arboretum boss Brett Hall, mushroom expert Christian Schwartz and many, many others. This course includes a three-day trip to UCSC's Big Creek Preserve in Big Sur.
