The Castro Adobe is one of the last, yet finest, rancho haciendas in the Monterey area. It stands hidden like a secret time portal back into the Rancho era of the Pajaro Valley. Soon to be our next State Park, it's currently closed—most of the time. Take advantage of it being open to the public during the upcoming Open House Days. Better yet, this year each day will be themed!
Today is Romance on the Rancho Day. Learn about attitudes toward intermarriage, courtship rituals and domestic life on the Rancho. Bring your honey to sip traditional hot chocolate and try homemade tortillas cooked on the bracero, or traditional stove, in the newly restored cocina, or kitchen. Or just show up and possibly find your dulcita! Tour the adobe and feel the romantic charm that bathed the Gold Rush era in California in this enchanting domicile that is being lovingly restored by Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks.
