Celebrate the New Sandhills Mobile Visitor Center

Date:

Sat, 04/02/2016 - 15:00

Most soil in the Santa Cruz Mountains is rich and fertile. But then there's sandhills, obtrusive patches of white sandstone. These sandhills are scattered throughout the area, contrasting the moistness and redness of sequoias. They're also an unforgiving substrate. Only certain plants, like the ponderosa pine and silverleaf manzanita, can stand to grow on them. This makes them pockets of unique ecosystems, worthy of appreciation and protection. That's why Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park will be unveiling the new Sandhills Mobile Visitor Center this Saturday. Join them for a special ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration. This wheeled center will help park visitors learn about and appreciate sandhills' strange terrain.

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park Campground. 2591 Graham Hill Road, Scotts Valley. redwoods@mountainparks.org. Festivities begin 3pm, ribbon cutting at 3:30pm. Parking limited; please carpool.
