Do Mother Nature a favor and volunteer at this year's Annual Coastal Cleanup Day, a day where water-lovers join forces to pick up the waste from our beautiful California shoreline. This day doesn’t just better the coast—it also includes bays, creeks, rivers and highways at more than 800 locations throughout California!
Last year, 3,064 volunteers in Santa Cruz and Monterey collected 14,517 pounds of trash and 2,630 pounds of recyclables (that's heavier than an orca whale!), with the most heavily-polluted waters being inland. Check out the specific stats from last year here.
Save Our Shores hosts numerous cleanups, which you can register for here. Santa Cruz sites can be found here, and Monterey sites here. Don’t see any cleanups in your area? Start one!
