Cosmic Dawn: The First Billion Years of Our Universe

Date:

Tue, 05/27/2014 - 19:30

Have you looked up at the night sky and wondered how the stars and galaxies came to be? If so, look no further.

Dr. Tom Abel is a computational cosmologist at the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology and a Professor both at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and the Physics Department at Stanford University, and his research specializes in discovering how galaxies and stars were born and how they evolved over time. His work is featured in the publications National Geographic and Physics Today. He's building a galaxy using computer modeling. And this is a short version of his, ahem, stellar bio.

Abel will be taking the public on a fascinating journey through the early universe at the Rio Theater, free of charge, as part of the Mandel Lecture series, which is geared to us perplexed non-physicists. Don't miss out on this opportunity to gain some cosmic knowledge! You can learn more about the man on the UCSC Mandel Lecture page.

Showtime is 7:30pm, doors open at 7:00pm. Free. Open seating until theater is full. Rio Theatre. 1205 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA.
