Join Rick Flores, the Curator of the California Native Collection, for the second event of the UCSC Arboretum Garden Tour Series. For those making the wise choice of planting native flora in their gardens, this collection from the arboretum showcases many interesting and beautiful species. Many of them were selected in the wild by staff members, then becoming propagated and released to be traded among the horticultural folk. As an expert in the field of California's native plant species, Rick will speak about a few of his favorites along with < ahref ="http://arboretum.ucsc.edu/visit/garden/relearning-garden/">his work with the Amah Mutsan, one of the many descendants of the Ohlone people, the original inhabitants of the land.
After the tour, there will be a chance to join the curator for a picnic, so bring along a lunch.
UCSC Arboretum. 12-1pm. Meet in front of Norrie's Gift Shop. Spaces are limited; purchase tickets here ahead of time. Tours will last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
