Day One: Ebb & Flow River Arts Project

Date:

Fri, 06/05/2015 - 17:00

Local artists and volunteers are banding together to revive the Santa Cruz RiverWalk in the Ebb & Flow River Arts Project this June! The project culminates in a three-day-long, family-friendly festival that’s open to the public. From 6/5-6/7, the RiverWalk will come alive with fun activities meant to inspire love and stewardship of our part of the San Lorenzo river, teach people about the river’s importance in our community and make great art.

First Friday Community Build: Gather around to create beautiful statues with your neighbors and friends. Everyone can paint, paper mache and piece together two sculptures that will represent everyone’s individual touch. Then see your finished creations on Saturday, 6/6, as part of the Ebb & Flow Kinetic Art Parade.

First Friday Community Build: Cooper St., next to Museum of Art & History (MAH). 5-8pm. Free. Map to Cooper St..

River NightWalk: Later in the evening, take a leisurely stroll down the RiverWalk to watch a Saki aerial dancer in an LED-lit costume performing off the Soquel Street Bridge. Then enjoy the short film "Go As A River" beneath the bridge itself to immerse yourself in the history and beauty of our San Lorenzo River. Local naturalist Brendan Bane will also guide you down the RiverWalk with a talk he calls "Wonderful Wildlife of the San Lorenzo River." To wrap up your experience, gather around the pedestrian bridge near the Tannery to watch a lighting ceremony of Geoffrey Nelson's "Guardians of the River" (pictured above).
