Day Two: Ebb & Flow River Arts Project

Date:

Sat, 06/06/2015 - 12:00

Local artists and volunteers are banding together to revive the Santa Cruz RiverWalk in the Ebb & Flow River Arts Project this June! The project culminates in a three-day-long, family-friendly festival that’s open to the public. From 6/5-6/7, the RiverWalk will come alive with fun activities meant to inspire love and stewardship of our part of the San Lorenzo river, teach people about the river’s importance in our community and make great art.

River ArtWalk: Come see local artists' and children's art pieces displayed along the scenic RiverWalk! All art pieces center around a river theme. You'll get to see massive "Fishing Rods" to recall that relaxing pastime and a kid-created mosaic of the river's wildlife called "Creature Banners." Click here for a full list of featured artists and their pieces.

Ebb & Flow Sculpture: Artists Kathleen Crocetti and Anna Oneglia joined with nearly 300 volunteers to create Ebb & Flow, a massive collage of mosaic tiles, twisting metal trees and vibrant kinetic fused glass discs. The huge, river-themed piece will be unveiled for the public to enjoy at the Tannery Arts Center. Map to Tannery Arts Center.

Kinetic Art Parade: Want to be part of a parade? Create your own art piece or decorate the kids' wagon with paint and glitter — just so long as your art moves, it can be in the parade! You'll even have the chance to win a prize; five $500 prizes will be given to the artists who create the best artworks. Or, simply come to watch the art parade by and watch the unveiling of the 10 temporary art projects that are part of the "River ArtWalk" event. If you want to be part of the parade, please register on site before the festivities.

Kaiser Permanente Arena. Registration: 11am. Parade: noon. Free. Map to Kaiser Permanente Arena.

River Arts Celebration: Finally, the second day of the festival closes with an afternoon of music, food and dancing at the Tannery Arts Center. You'll be treated to music from SambaDa, the Afro-Samba-Funk band, and the blues trio Marty O'Reilly. The group BANDALOOP will also perform their gravity-defying dances off the side of the Tannery building. Crocetti and Oneglia's community art project Ebb & Flow will also be there for you to feast your eyes on, and experts will be leading river tours on the river's history, future and wildlife. Arts and crafts, face-painting, puppet-making — it all comes together at the Tannery Arts Center.
