Plein air artist Erika Perloff gets to her destinations the hard way: she backpacks in. Her pastels, on display tonight at the Mission Adobe as part of the Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks summer series, will have you hankering for your next Sierra vacation even as the ukulele-mandolin band The Tailgaters will have you feeling pretty good about being right here in Santa Cruz. Nice problem to have. And if you haven't been to the Mission Adobe yet, go. Its low-slung old walls and dusty courtyard have a timeworn Santa Fe feel that won't disappoint—especially when you realize it's about a 90-second walk from the Clock Tower and has huge views of the Bay.
Santa Cruz Mission Adobe State Park, 144 School St., Santa Cruz. 5-8pm. Free.
