Fly fishing inspires a nigh-religious fervor among practitioners. So can we be surprised that a film festival now makes the circuit to celebrate high points of tying fancy little knots, putting on waders and making lassoing motions in the middle of rivers in beautiful country for hours on end? We outsiders may not understand, but we can definitely respect their zeal—and maybe even go see their movies.
This montage covers tarpon fishing in Florida, trout fishing in the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia and chasing golden dorado in the Bolivian Amazon. Proceeds benefit the Steinbeck Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited, which works on behalf of the trout, salmon and steelhead fisheries of the Central California Coast.
Rio Theatre, 1205 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz. 7pm. Tickets $15 adv/ $18 at the door.
