The Hidden Descent

Date:

Sun, 05/22/2016 - 10:00

Discover a little-trodden part of the park as docents lead you along Dool Trail, past Ocean View Summit, through Middle Ridge Road and down past Opal Creek on the Hollow Tree Trail. As you trudge through the leaf-covered, steep path, you’ll arrive at the Johansen Shingle Mill, built way back in 1927. This 9-mile, 4.5-hour hike that gains about 1000’ of elevation is not for the weak, but calls all who thirst for an adventure through unfrequented areas. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water, lunch, snacks, and of course, clothing appropriate for the trek.

Big Basin State Park. 10am. Meet at Park Headquarters. Free, but parking will cost $10.
