On this moderately paced 5-mile, six-hour trek to the deep canyon where the San Lorenzo River makes an extreme bend, you'll visit four different ecosystems, cross the river twice (expect knee-deep water) and gain and lose several hundred feet of elevation. Along the way you'll encounter redwoods, Douglas firs, wild azaleas and the rare sandhill habitat with its manzanita and stately Ponderosa pines. Bring water, a lunch, layered clothing and footwear for the river crossings.
Meet at the campfire circle in the campground, 2591 Graham Hill Road, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. 11am. Free, but parking is $10. For info call 831-335-7077.
