There's a time for tromping and a time for slipping silently through the forest, the better to glimpse wildlife. Docent Steve Stolpher leads a 3-mile, 4-hour hike through Big Basin during which you'll learn techniques for moving quietly and boosting your nature awareness. Bring soft-soled moccasins or extra socks that you don't mind getting dirty, lots of water and lunch. Meet at Park Headquarters.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park, 9 miles from Boulder Creek up Hwy 236. 10am. Free, but parking is $10.
