"In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing," Norman MacLean wrote in A River Runs Through It. "We lived at the junction of great trout rivers in western Montana, and our father was a Presbyterian minister and a fly fisherman who tied his own flies and taught others. He told us about Christ’s disciples being fishermen, and we were left to assume, as my brother and I did, that all first-class fishermen in the sea of Galilee were fly fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman."
We've all seen the photos and footage. Find out why wearing waders and tying teensy knots stirs so much passion at this free (well, $3) Intro to Fly Fishing Workshop. They'll gather at the pond at Quail Hollow Ranch and show you the basics, plus tell you all about the conservation practices they support and present a lot of crafts, food and opportunities for practice. Bring your own reel and rod, or use club rods on site.
Quail Hollow Ranch, 10am-3pm. $3. Free BBQ lunch and cold drinks provided! Map to Quail Hollow Ranch County Park.
