Light Up the Night Bike Ride

Date:

Fri, 01/30/2015 - 17:00

Lights are essential gear for anyone with a bicycle. You never know when your bike adventure or commute might leave you stranded in the dark, miles from home. They're essential yes, and also pricey, which is why People Power of Santa Cruz County and Green Ways to School are partnering with the Museum of Art and History and a number of rad sponsors to "light up the night" and hook you up with some free gear. After bike decorating at the MAH, join an easy-paced, brightly lit bike ride in the dark to raise awareness for the importance of safely illuminated bicycling.

Free bike lights, donated by various bike gear companies, will be distributed at the MAH to the first 50 folks who arrive, starting at 5pm. From 5-7pm, SUBPAR will be providing the beats and volunteers will be helping distribute bike helmets, snacks, and materials for bike decorating so you can ride in style.

At 7pm, brightly decorated people of all ages and skill levels will be hopping on their bikes together for a ride around town. If you're under 18, print this waiver and have a parent/guardian sign it so you can join in on the fun!

Bright costumes and lights on everything spokes to frames to helmets are highly encouraged. Prizes will be awarded for the brightest bicycle, brightest-dressed rider, and most creative costume. Yes, the prizes include more sweet bike lights.

Bike decorating and ride departing from Museum of Art and History, 705 Front Street, Santa Cruz. 5-7pm; ride departs at 7pm. Free.
