The coolest Santa Cruz Mountains property you've never heard of is throwing a party Saturday afternoon with bands, camping demonstrations, booths, crafts and tours. Little Basin, once a retreat for Hewlett-Packard employees, became part of Big Basin State Park in 2011 and now functions as one of its group campground sites. It's also home to the Web of Life Field School, a camp for kids that emphasizes appreciation for science and nature. What better place, we ask, to park the kids for a week in the summer than this kind of place?
Little Basin Redwood Camp, 21700 Little Basin Road. 11am-4pm. $10 parking.
To get there, head up toward Big Basin on Highway 236. Turn left onto Little Basin Road. Find a map here.
