We're not like those water-stealing Los Angelenos, sucking precious water from hundreds of miles away. Instead, Santa Cruz County relies on Loch Lomond, a 180-acre reservoir in the Santa Cruz Mountains. But despite this local source, we're shouldn't feel smug anymore. The Loch Lomond recreation area has been closed for two seasons due to drought. Fortunately, water levels have risen again, and the recreation area re-opened this month. This Saturday, take the opportunity to walk with Chief Ranger Gar Eidam. Along the way he will speak on water system operations and watershed protection.
Loch Lomond Recreation Area. 100 Loch Lomond Way, Felton. 10am-12pm. Entrance fee $6 per vehicle. RSVP to Gar Eidam at geidam@cityofsantacruz.com or 831-335-7424.
