Get your map geek on! For the first time, National Geographic has put the Santa Cruz Mountains on one of its maps, and Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks and Hilltromper are throwing a party at Hotel Paradox to celebrate. Special guests will include Rachael Huerta, the National Geographic cartographer who created this gorgeous guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains area.

Read an article about the new National Geographic Santa Cruz area map.

The two-sided, rip- and waterproof "Trails Illustrated: Big Basin/Santa Cruz Parks and Preserves" map features topographic information and trail names and mileage, as well as contact information for public parks agencies. And in a nod to the reality of who handles much of the day-to-day business of area state parks, the Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks logo and information are featured prominently. Other organizations called out on the map include Sempervirens Fund, Mountain Parks Foundation, Land Trust of Santa Cruz County and Peninsula Open Space Trust.

Join us for the launch of a map that highlights the adventure and beauty for which Santa Cruz is so beloved. Beer, wine and light appetizers are provided for your enjoyment.

Hotel Paradox, 611 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz. 6pm. Free.
