Today is a special day, friends: not only is it National Chocolate Ice Cream Day and National VCR Day, it's also National Trails Day. And how do we celebrate National Trails Day? With a hike, clearly. Here are a few scenic options in case you don't have any trails in your queue.
RELATIVELY FLAT
Old Cove Trail at Wilder Ranch A meander along the bluffs overlooking the Pacific.
River Trail at Henry Cowell Amble along the San Lorenzo River that ends up in big trees.
Five Fingers Loop at Elkhorn Slough A walk in the grasslands overlooking the slough.
SWEAT A LITTLE (3-5 miles with elevation gain)
Observation Deck Hike at Henry Cowell Great views at the top!
Chinquapin-Eucalyptus-Long Meadow Trail at Wilder Pause at the eucalyptus grove for a picnic and the taking in of views.
Old Growth Loop at Forest of Nisene Marks (This is only 1.5 miles but it involves some ups and downs and is too pretty to leave out.)
SWEAT A LITTLE MORE ... OR MAYBE A LOT (5 or more miles with elevation gain)
Berry Creek Falls from Big Basin Headquarters Big day of hiking takes you to a waterfall (or three).
Wilder Ridge Loop Eight miles of north coast goodness.
West Ridge Loop in Forest of Nisene Marks Steepest trail in Nisene Marks.
Have fun out there! Remember to bring water and a snack. And afterward perhaps enjoy some delicious iced tea—for June is National Iced Tea Month.
