Native Plant Hike at Henry Cowell

Date:

Sun, 01/25/2015 - 10:00

Besides redwoods, what kinds of plants grow at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park? Learn the answer to this question on this moderately strenuous 5-mile, 2-hour hike with the California Native Plant Society. Join Deanna Giuliano to discover the local endemic Arctostaphylos silvicola (a local manzanita variety) and Ribes divaricatum (a kind of "gooseberry") in their special habitat of the sandhills. Explore a controlled burn area to see what's sprouting, get panoramic views from above at the observation deck, and find some unique plants along Eagle Creek on the hike back. Bring water, layers, sunscreen, a hat, and a lunch. Heavy rain cancels.

Meet at Juvenile Hall parking lot off Graham Hill Rd. Call Deanna Giuliano at 831.335.4902 for more information. 10am-12pm. Free.
