This week, the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum will host a nature walk and book signing with 15-year-old local author Kelly McCandless. Kelly’s book, The Budding Naturalist’s Guide to the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, includes beautiful pictures and helpful tips on how to tell apart different animal tracks around the Arboretum. Attendees will get to explore the Arboretum with Kelly as she points out animals from her book, like the Allen’s hummingbird pictured above. This could be a great opportunity for young and beginning naturalists to learn from a young expert on all the birds, lizards and mammals that call California their home.
