Fans of Rancho del Oso, better known locally as Waddell Valley, are wild about its tremendous variety of habitats. Among them is a rare natural stand of Monterey pines, one of the last in the world. Docent naturalist Ann Garside leads a leisurely 1.5-hour, 1-mile stroll from the Rancho del Oso Nature Center to coastal scrub, to a stand of the lovely evergreens, exploring the blooming plants and scurrying critters along the way.
Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center, 3600 Hwy 1 (17 miles north of Santa Cruz). 1pm. Free. For more information, please call (831) 427-2288
