Ohlone Day

Date:

Sat, 09/10/2016 - 10:00

Sayanta, Aptos, Sokel: the people who called Northern California home before Spanish missionaries arrived gave their names to many places in the Monterey and San Francisco bay areas. Join descendants of the Ohlone people as they host Ohlone Day, a celebration of the people who occupied regions from San Francisco to the Salinas Valley in the 18th century. Immerse yourself in Ohlone crafts such as traditional basketry and learn about the traditional medicine such as the use of bay tree leaves that cure headaches. Listen to stories of the past and dance along to unique musical instruments with traditional dancers. The whole family is encouraged to attend.

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, off Hwy 9 in Felton. 10am-4pm. Free admission. Parking $10. Call 831.335.7077 for more information.
