The much-anticipated O'Neill Coldwater Classic Surf Contest returns for the 2014 season, sporting the new format pioneered in the 2013 season. Sixteen unsponsored and talented professional surfers compete for the grand prize of a yearlong chance to chase the dream of qualifying for the World Championship Tour backed by an O'Neill Wetsuit sponsorship and $50,000 in travel support and contest entry fees. A personal videographer will tag along to record the year's highs and lows.
Ten of the 16 competitors will be officially invited, two will be wildcards, and the remaining four will be choosen via online voting on video submissions.
The contest will be held on Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30. Mark your calendars, folks, stakes this big are sure to inspire some impassioned performances and the natural stadium at Steamer Lane is among surfing's finest venues. Please note that the Truck Stop food truck will be on hand serving light breakfast, lunch and fish tacos. Mm-mm-good.
