Orca Tour with Erich Hoyt

Date:

Thu, 05/15/2014 - 18:00

The noted author and marine conservationist comes to the Sanctuary Exploration Center to talk about orcas, with special emphasis on an endangered population of about 80 Puget Sound-area orcas known as the Southern Resident Killer Whales. Genetically distinct from the orcas that roam the Monterey Bay and western seaboard, these killer whales eat primarily fish and are faced with conservation issues like dwindling prey availability and pollution. Hoyt's presentation, called “Adventures with Orcas in the North Pacific—From A1 Stubbs to Iceberg, the White Russian Bull," includes information from his background research in western waters of the North Pacific, near Russia, where three rare white orcas have been identified.

Sanctuary Exploration Center, 32 Pacific Ave, Santa Cruz. 6pm. Tickets $5 at Brown Paper Tickets.
