Everyone loves an ancient redwood, but what about a mighty oak or a tremendous madrone? Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park has four very different habitats, and each one has its big trees. Docent Barry Grimm leads this very cool hike to find the "Champion Tree" of each species: madrone, sycamore, Douglas-fir, cottonwood, maple, Ponderosa and, of course, redwood. This is a four-hour, five-mile walk that goes to the Observation Deck. Heavy rain cancels.
Meet at Nature Store, Henry Cowell Redwoods SP, 100 North Big Trees Loop, Felton. Noon. Free but parking is $10.
