Bake sale? Whatever! Cue the "Rocky" music—the Run for Rio fires up today to raise funds for vital education programs at Rio del Mar Elementary School.

The 5k starts at Seascape Park and winds through the neighborhoods to end up at Seascape Village. The fun run portion of the event, held in honor of the late Lily Jacob, who would have been a sixth-grader this year, starts immediately after and circumnavigates the park. Seascape Park, 1 Seascape Resort Dr, Aptos. Registration opens at 7am; 5k at 8am; Fun Run following (about 10am). Registration $30/person through Oct. 10; $35/person thereafter. Family rates also available.
