It's all salamanders all day at Rancho del Oso, with salamander storytime at 11am and a three-mile, family-friendly guided salamander scavenger hunt at 1pm. Drop in for salamander crafts from noon til 4pm. Then, as the sun sets and Newt Night draws near (5pm), hear tales and songs about regenerating toes, poisonous skin and other lore from the wacky world of salamanders.
Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center, 3600 Highway 1 (17 miles north of Santa Cruz). 11am-4pm; Newt Night begins at 5pm. Free. For info call 831.427.2288.
