The Salinas River Wildlife Refuge is home to numerous endangered and threatened species: the brown pelican, the western snowy plover, and Smith’s blue butterfly. Enjoy the company of Sierra Club hikers as they venture along Salinas River State Beach in the refuge, where you’ll have the chance to spot rare creatures. But protected species aren’t the only advantage— many other animals inhabit the area and there’s lunch at Phil’s after. This hike is 8 miles.
Salinas River State Beach hike. 8/31, 9:30am. Meet at parking lot on Sandholdt Rd., just after the bridge. Contact leader Anneliese Suter @ 831.624.1467 for details.
