Save Our Shores and the Sanctuary Exploration Center welcome the L.A.-based ocean pollution research team 5Gyres for an evening of education and hobnobbing. The 5Gyres team is just back from its sailing excursion to the North Pacific, where it got the latest on the progress of the Japanese tsunami debris (pictured in the graphic above at the 365-day mark) as it makes its way across the ocean. Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center, 35 Pacific Ave, Santa Cruz. 6:30pm. Free, but space is limited, so RSVP to rachel@saveourshores.org to ensure you get a seat.
