Screening: "Here and Now"

Date:

Sat, 04/30/2016 - 18:00

“There is not one inch of land in the United States that was not indigenous land at one time,” says Chairman Valentin Lopez of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band. Now the Amah Mutsun and another band, the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians, are forging unique partnerships with conservation groups like the Trust for Public Land, Sempervirens Fund, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and the Bay Area Open Space Council to restore land atop Mt. Umunhum, in the Quiroste Valley and at Pie Ranch on the San Mateo Coast, and in coastal Sonoma County.

The 20-minute film Here and Now, directed by Andy Miller, explores these partnerships and the indigenous techniques for land stewardship now taking root around the Bay Area. Read more about Here and Now and watch a clip (below) about the partnership between the Amah Mutsun and Sempervirens Fund in the Quiroste Valley.

The film shows this evening at the Museum of Art and History, followed by a discussion with Chairman Lopez and film producer Annie Burke of the Bay Area Open Space Council.
