California State Parks Environmental Scientist Portia Halbert lets visitors in on the secret life of marbled murrelets. So elusive they went undetected in this area until the 1970s, these members of the auk family spend most of their time at sea but will nest only in very tall redwoods and Douglas firs. A number of them nest in Big Basin old-growth groves not far from Rancho del Oso.
Rancho del Oso Nature Center, 3600 Hwy 1, Davenport. 10am. Free.
