The longjohns! The beards! The axe-throwing contests cheered by ladies in calico and bonnets! The Summer Gathering of Mountain Men returns to Roaring Camp to celebrate the days of Isaac Graham, the enterprising trapper-turned-lumberman who managed to purchase Rancho Zayante in the mid-1800s (even though he wasn't a Mexican citizen) and build a sawmill just north of Felton. This two-day affair features crafts, demonstrations of mountain manly skills like metalworking and other activities associated with rugged self-reliance. And there is a barbecue from noon til 3pm each day.
