Nothing is quite as cathartic as some good, solid girl time; add a self-propelled tour of our world-class scenery and, well, you've got yourself something to look forward to. These monthly rides, titled Vélo Femme, typically start with a 30- to 40-minute workshop on some aspect of bikes and riding, then tour the coast or climb into the hills (rides are usually 15-20 miles). No need for intimidation; it's a beginner level, no-drop ride (i.e., no woman left behind).
This week your intrepid ride leader Campbell Steers, with help from the crack bike maintenance team at Bicycle Trip, will take you through the elements of Roadside Repair and Safety Check. Picture yourself being the kind of capable woman who can fix her own damn flat tire, thank you very much, and—heh, equally important—go over her bike thoroughly before riding to make sure no parts are going to go flying down the asphalt in the middle of the ride. Today's a good first step toward becoming that gal.
Says Campbell, "It will basically cover how to fix a flat, adjust your brakes, check quick release skewers, tire pressure, and go over the tools I carry with me when I ride. We will probably do a Scotts Valley loop of some kind, roughly 20 miles on the road."
Sounds good to us.
"I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel...the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood." — Susan B. Anthony.
Yeah, Susan B.! We couldn't agree more.
